HOW IS THE WRITER’S BUSINESS ACADEMY DIFFERENT?
The Writer’s Business Academy is specifically designed to help adults like you fit your education into your already busy lives. The WBA’s programs are delivered online to allow you to fit us into your schedule – rather than the other way around.
And we’ve created a unique mentor program to help you get on track quickly – and stay there.
You’ll be working with your mentor on a regular basis, and start by creating your own personalized “Academic Action Plan” that builds upon what you already know in the field. And then you decide what you you want to learn to help you achieve your ultimate goals for your business.
The next step is putting together the resources you need, based on how you learn best. (Some of our students prefer working on their own, at their own pace using downloadable or online reading materials, while others like the ease of how-to videos and/or podcasts and still others learn best in a small group environment and prefer signing up for weekly teleseminars.)
You may be able to accelerate your pace depending upon the competencies you already possess and still juggle the demands of school, work, and family.
UNDERSTANDING THE COMPETENCIES-BASED APPROACH
The Writer’s Business Academy is the leading distance learning center that offers real world marketing and business building skills based completely on competencies—your ability to demonstrate skills and knowledge through a series of modules carefully designed to measure your knowledge of a field of study.
Our program is not based upon required courses. Instead, you build your writing business by demonstrating your competence through a series of carefully designed assignments based on what you need to learn how to do so you can achieve your goals. This approach allows for extensive personalization and fast progress.
THE WRITER’S BUSINESS ACADEMY’S MENTORING APPROACH
You may not completely understand or appreciate the Writer’s Business Academy’s personalized mentoring approach – at least until you become on of our students!
Once you’ve enrolled at the WBA, you are immediately teamed up with a mentor, who is focused on helping you succeed.
During your introductory meeting (by telephone or skype chat), you will meet your mentor and together you’ll begin developing your Academic Action Plan (AAP), which becomes your business building GPS to guide you through the WBA program. (You’ll find everything you need to prepare for your first meeting in your student packet.)
Your mentor will determine the best learning resources for you based upon your background, strengths and weaknesses. For the next three months, you’ll meet weekly with your mentor who will help make sure you stay on track.
Your mentor wears many hats for you – advisor, coach, tutor, cheerleader – even butt-kicker when necessary. This is because all of us at the Writer’s Business Academy are 100% committed to your success.
